About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Humans have been able to communicate using some form of language for at least 150,000 years. So, isn’t it odd that most of us still find it emotionally challenging to handle certain types of conversations e.g., those during which we need to tell someone that we’d like to experience a change in how they behave or speak? Shouldn’t 150,000 years of practice have made perfect? Many of us envy the few who can “talk straight.” But even those who can easily deliver tough messages often find it challenging to receive them! Why is that? In this module of Ethical Reading’s Healthy & Ethical Workplace programme, we answer that question and how it leads to a healthier and ethical working environment.

The module will cover:

- Why some conversations are difficult

- Why some people seem difficult

- Initiating a difficult conversations

- Responding to a challenging conversation

- Saying “No”

After registering, we kindly ask that you join the event at least 5 minutes early — each module follows a tight timeline, and we’d love for you to catch everything from the start!

Ethical Reading exists to help organisations in Reading and their teams do the right thing by each other, the wider community and the environment, and to thrive in the process.

It’s all about supporting people to take a compassionate, respectful and responsible approach when making decisions at every level, from the board room to everyday interactions.

We want to encourage organisations of all kinds and their and employees to make more ethical choices. We’ll do this by bringing people together at events with inspirational speakers and opportunities to share ideas, and by providing access to thought-provoking training resources.
