Hidden Beach: Kin Community Choir — Open Singing

Hidden Beach: Kin Community Choir — Open Singing

Bottle AlleyHastings, England
Sunday, Aug 9 from 12 pm to 8 pm GMT+1
Overview

An open, un-auditioned community choir for women, non-binary and gender-queer folks. All ages welcome, no experience needed.

Please note: To take part in the Waves Unplugged sharing, participants will need to be available for some of the Kin choir sessions in the lead-up. You do not need to attend every session, but regular participation helps build the shared songs and confidence needed for the beach sharing.

Kin is a collaborative, un-auditioned community choir for women, non-binary and gender-queer folks. All ages are welcome (including tiny humans), and no previous singing or choir experience is required.

Kin is designed as a welcoming, inclusive space where people can discover their voice, sing together and build confidence through shared practice. The emphasis is on listening, blending, presence and participation rather than technical perfection or performance.

Sessions include gentle vocal warm-ups, breathing, listening, simple harmony and shared songs, creating a supportive environment where people can explore their voice at their own pace. There is no pressure to be “good”, no expectation to perform, and no requirement to attend every week — people are welcome to come when they can, stay for as long as feels right, and take part in whatever way feels comfortable.

As part of this shared singing experience, members of Kin are invited to take part in a relaxed, informal public sharing at Waves Unplugged — a gentle acoustic gathering on the beach.

This sharing will take place on:
Saturday 9 August 2026
Bottle Alley, Hastings (on the beach)

This is not a formal concert or polished performance, but a celebration of the process — a chance to sing together in a beautiful public setting and share what has been explored as a community.

Through this combination of regular shared singing and gentle public sharing, Kin offers a way for people to build confidence, connection and creative presence while remaining rooted in care, inclusion and collective experience.

This activity forms part of the Hidden Beach Summer of Culture, a month-long programme running from 31 July to 31 August across Hastings and St Leonards.
