Join us at Durham University to celebrate N8 CIR’s achievements over the last 12 months.

PostponedAlthough the event will not now take place on Monday 13 December, we have left booking open so that you can register your interest for the re-scheduled event.OverviewN8 CIR is delighted to announce its first in-person event since March 2020. Starting at 10am, the event will use keynotes, presentations, lightning talks and breakout sessions to celebrate the work and achievements of N8 CIR over the last 12 months.The event will focus on three key areas:<ul><li>Bede, N8 CIR&#x27;s high-performance computing platform</li><li>N8 CIR&#x27;s successful application to become a chapter of Women in HPC</li><li>The launch of our new machine learning research theme</li></ul>N8 CIR is still working to finalise the programme, but details will be shared via Twitter and the N8 CIR website as soon as they are available.KeynotesThe event will feature keynote presentations from three speakers:<ul><li>Alison Kennedy, Director of the Hartree Centre</li><li>Syma Khaid, Professor of Computational Microbiology &amp; Sarah Harris, Associate Professor of Biological Physics</li></ul>Full details of these talks will be added to this page as soon as they become available. There will be further presentations on N8 CIR&#x27;s Women in HPC chapter and an overview of Durham University&#x27;s CIUK Cluster Challenge team. A series of lightning talks will also feature in the afternoon.Lightning Talks<ul><li>Oras Al-Ani - A Review on the Role of Materials Engineering in Renewable Energy Sources</li><li>Alison Clarke, From Turtles to HPC: Agent-based Modelling of a Classroom</li><li>Jochen Einbeck - The Condor Cluster in Mathematical Sciences</li><li>Phil Hasnip - TBC</li><li>Dave Horsfall - RSE Mental Health</li><li>Chris Jewell - Putting Epidemic Modelling into Practice in the SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic Response</li><li>Anna Krystalli - Building Communities of Practice in Reproducibility</li><li>Paul Richmond - Complex Systems Simulation on Complex Computing Architectures</li></ul>Health and SafetyDurham university requires staff, students, staff and visitors to wear face masks or coverings if they can whilst on campus. This will include the Teaching and Learning Centre, where this event is due to take place. The venue has a capacity well in excess of the number of available places, which means you will be able to socially distance whilst listening to speaker presentations.We would encourage attendees to take a lateral flow test no earlier than 48 hours before the event.
