About this event

  • 6 hours

If you're interested in bees and beekeeping, our Open Day is a chance to find out more. Bees are very important pollinators and there’s always something new to learn about these fascinating creatures.

We'll lend you a protective bee suit and gloves and you'll taken around our training apiary in small groups by an experienced beekeeper.

Weather permitting, you'll have the chance to see a hive being opened to let you observe the bees at close quarters. We'll explain the internal workings of a hive, the difference between the three types of bees in a hive - the queen, drones and workers - and what each of them do.

We'll describe how the bees collect and store pollen and nectar, how they make wax and honey and how they raise new bees.

Free to attend. Make sure you bring wellies.
