Welcome to the Historical Mapping Workshop! Join us on Tue, Apr 16, 2024 at 10:30 AM in the Kinvonvie Suite, Lairg Community Centre for a fun and educational event.

Do you love local history? Do you wonder how your local area has changed over time and what was there in the past? Do you want to learn new skills and meet like mind people? If so, Archaeology for Communities in the Highlands (ARCH) and the Lairg District & Learning Centre are delighted to be delivering a workshop on historic maps and how to use them to research you local area. You will learn about all the different sorts of maps as hosted on the National Library of Scotland’s website and how to use these effectively for your own research.

Learn all about the fascinating world of historical maps and how they have shaped our understanding of the past. This workshop is perfect for history buffs, cartography enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the world around them.

ABOUT ARCH

Archaeology for Communities in the Highlands (ARCH) was set up in January 2009 to provide a range of exciting and innovative community archaeology projects. It will provide opportunities to encourage people with diverse interests and abilities in the Highlands to learn about, record and participate in celebrating and increasing knowledge of their local heritage. ARCH will do this in a number of ways including classroom learning, practical outdoor sessions, group project work, or via a virtual community.
