Cold Case 6: The High Girders - The Fall of the Tay Bridge
The background.. . On a stormy night in December 1879 a passenger train was travelling between Burntisland to Dundee. The winds that night were especially ferocious blowing directly onto the side of the Tay Bridge with force. Just as the train was passing over the river a huge gust hit the bridge and brought it down, with the train. All on board perished.
Case notes...
The bridge was designed by Sir Thomas Bouch. Were there flaws? Were there warnings ignored? How bad was the storm? Could this disaster have been avoided?
