About this event

Ahead of Heritage Open Days - Mon 8 & Weds 10 Sept at 1pm - please select the correct date when booking.

Led by local villagers, Alistair Wilson & Richard Hirst, you will hear how farm work has changed over 70 years from being very labour intensive with many small farms in the village and relatively small surrounding fields, to the landscape and village layout we see today with much larger farms, needing less staff as mechanisation, efficiency and size of farm equipment has changed.

The walk will also pass by the site of Denby Farm, where author J S Fletcher was raised which now proudly displays Darrington's first blue plaque.

2 miles walk/talk. Pre-booking essential. Meet in The Spread car park, Estcourt Rd, Darrington, Pontefract WF8 3AP

NOTE: Darrington Church will also be open 12-12:45pm. Check it out, then join us for the walk.

Organized by

Our annual programme of talks is open to member and non-members (rates may vary).

Although some topics may specifically relate to Pontefract and the surrounding towns and villages, we do include a wider geography and a broad range of heritage, social history, architecture, events and people. We also host an annual Design Awards event to recognise positive development and regeneration in the area across a number of categories, including the Countess of Rosse Facade of the Year Award.
