About this event

A guided walk, by the Civic Society, with information about its WWI & WWII connections, the history of the park and reference to nature. Meet at the “pepperpot” building five minutes before start time for a walk inside Pontefract Racecourse circuit, which highlights a brief history of the park (including its link with Royalty, the castle, horse racing and its reduction in size). It considers the events and activities which took place associated with both World Wars, and aspects of nature in Pontefract Park. Suitable footwear essential for varied surfaces, and the route is not accessible for those with mobility issues.

Walk-ins accepted, though pre-booking is helpful. Pontefract Park, Park Road, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, WF8 4RA

Our annual programme of talks is open to member and non-members (rates may vary).

Although some topics may specifically relate to Pontefract and the surrounding towns and villages, we do include a wider geography and a broad range of heritage, social history, architecture, events and people. We also host an annual Design Awards event to recognise positive development and regeneration in the area across a number of categories, including the Countess of Rosse Facade of the Year Award.
