In this one-day session we will be examining the communication methods a manager needs to use to support and improve performance, particularly in periods of change.

Learning Outcomes
Following this session participants will be able to:
• Prepare for difficult conversations
• Manage our emotional state during difficult conversations
• Utilise the principles of Emotional Intelligence to build rapport
• Describe how to approach situations in a way which is assertive
• Tackle performance dips and steer individuals toward improvement
These outcomes will be achieved through the following activities:
• Preparing ourselves, the environment and the other party for difficult conversations, ensuring that we incorporate information from recent appraisals and 360 degree feedback exercises
• Considering your own feelings when having those conversations to ensure that you can manage your emotions and help your team member the manage theirs
• Recognising that our health, wellbeing and levels of stress can impact our ability to initiate difficult conversations and can also impact our colleagues ability to take part
• Promoting the health and wellbeing virtual exercises, utilising the advice presented within the stress and resilience policy and directing individuals toward the Thrive app
• Applying the principles of emotional intelligence to demonstrate empathy and understanding towards your team members concerns whilst recognising the person’s unique experience and promoting inclusivity within the team
• Using assertiveness to get your message across and stand by your decisions without losing your temper or backing down whilst ensuring that I show respect to the other persons views, take time to genuinely listen and reflect upon feedback given via the 360-degree feedback process
• Managing under performance using the Painless Performance Improvement model
