About this event

Learn about Jewish festivals, including the Sabbath and Passover, through exploration of stories, rituals and food.

This interactive two-hour workshop includes:

• Discovery of Sabbath traditions, after which children get to plait and bake their own challah bread in our learning kitchen;

• Interactive exploration of the Passover story and traditions, including sampling of foods from the Seder plate;

• Reflective time on our museum gallery, where children can further engage with Passover themes such as journeys and freedom.

  • You are responsible for your own children's safety throughout the session.
  • Because this event involves baking bread and trying food samples, please let us know in advance if your child has any allergies or dietary restrictions.
  • This event is exclusively for families of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) who live in the city of Manchester.

What are the foods' ingredients?

All ingredients used in the activities for the event are vegetarian. The main ingredients are: sugar, flour (which contains gluten), eggs, yeast, salt, vegetable oil, raisins, horseradish (which contains milk, egg and mustard), grape juice, cinnamon, honey, apple. PLEASE LET US KNOW OF ANY ALLERGIES

What if my child can't have eggs?

If we are notified in advance, the museum can create an egg-free challah dough for children who cannot have eggs. PLEASE INFORM US AT LEAST ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE, as this option is not possible without advance notice.

What if my child can't have gluten?

For children who cannot have gluten, the museum can provide air dry clay so that they can still participate with the activity. PLEASE INFORM US AT LEAST ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE if this is needed.
