Overview

A relaxed morning exploring domestic life in Ancient Roman Britain and Boudicca's rebellion.

Join us for a relaxed morning exploring domestic roman life in Britain using a collection of original and replica objects.

  • Discover how archaeologists uncover the buried evidence of the romans in Britain
  • Learn about Queen Boudicaa's rebellion against the Roman Empire.
  • Visit a roman market and handle 2,000 year old pottery
  • Grind herbs in a mortarium
  • Use writing tools like a roman child
  • Try on replica roman costume
  • Make and decorate your own roman pottery

Some parts of the workshop are led by our experienced staff and others are self led.

Children aged 5 and over require a paid ticket. Please also book a free ticket for adults and non participating children so we know how many people to expect on site.


Accessibility

Some activities will take place on the first floor, which can only be accessed by stairs.

Step-free access is available to the ground floor.


Facilities

There is no cafe available on site. Please bring your own refreshments.

Toilets are located within the house and include an accessible toilet and baby changing facilities.


Parking

There is no on-site parking available for visitors at St John’s House but we can reserve spaces for blue badge holders. Please contact: heritagelearning@warwickshire.gov.uk to reserve a space.

There is a large pay-and-display at St Nicholas Park, which can be accessed via St John’s Brook garden.

Alternatively we are a 5 minute walk from Warwick Train Station. The X17 bus, operated by Stagecoach, stops close to St John's House on Coten End.


Cancellation Policy

  • Tickets cannot be refunded or returned.
  • Refunds will not be offered for non-attendance at an event.
  • Tickets are not transferable and accordingly may not be sold or passed to any third party
  • Free tickets can be cancelled at any time via Eventbrite.


We reserve the right to reschedule, postpone or cancel an event at any time.

In the unlikely event that we have to cancel your booking, we will offer you an alternative date where possible. If an alternative date is not possible, we will issue you a full refund for your ticket cost.

We cannot be held responsible for any other costs incurred to you due to the cancellation of an event.
