Sue Wilkinson OBE (former CEO of The Reading Agency) will be talking about ‘Embracing Change’ on the 25th Feb. She will share stories about her 40 years in the public sector with a brief period in the private sector and how change has been a constant feature of her working life. In this lecture, she will reflect on how this change has shaped her and the ways in which she learned from it.

The day will start with a drinks reception at 5pm and the lecture will start at 5.30pm in the Paston Brown Room. Don't miss the opportunity to listen to an inspiring role model!

Sue Wilkinson’s Biography

I have spent my most of my career in the public sector working in arts and education with a brief period in the private sector when I was Director of UK Academic and Government Alliances at Elsevier. As Director of Policy at the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) I worked with the sector to create the quality and impact framework, Inspiring Learning for All, which is now used in museums, archives and libraries all over the world. I also worked with public libraries and their partners to deliver a wide range of programmes, and with local museums to establish, and secure funding for the Renaissance in the Regions programme .I was Chief Executive of The Reading Agency (TRA) from January 2014 to until I retired in July 2019. This national charity runs programmes for people of all ages across the whole of the UK; last year 1.5 million people took part in these.

I read history at Clare College Cambridge, trained as a teacher and did a post-graduate course in museum education at the University of Leicester. I was awarded an MBE for services to museums and education in 2013 and an OBE in the 2019 New Years’ honour list for services to literature and libraries. I am currently a trustee of Historic Royal Palaces and of the Royal Pavilion and Museums, Brighton and Hove. I was previously a trustee of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Handel House Museum.
