Hospitable Environment: Solidarity Supper

Sussex Refugee and Migrant Self Support Group:is refugees and migrants led support group which places individuals at the centre of their own legal, immigration and political struggles by rejecting traditional top-down advice models. Instead, we, migrants and refugees trapped on the wrong side of the Home Office, work collectively to fight for our right to remain. It is also a way of building community resilience.Thousand for Thousand:Supports Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and Migrants who come here to make a new life for themselves but fall into destitution because of the UK’s 'hostile environment' for irregular migrants. The methodology is pretty crude. It denies people access to their basic needs. One big plank of that is limiting access to income and housing. There are probably over half million people in this position in the UK. T4K is looking for thousands of people who are willing to give as little as £1 a month to make a society that is welcoming to strangers. T4K uses that money to cover the housing costs of people Brighton who are homeless because of their immigration status. We also do one-off fundraising.We warmly welcome people with experience of fleeing conflict or seeking sanctuary to all of our meetings and events. We know that our movement needs to include people with different abilities and needs. Sussex Refugee and Migrant Self Support Group

In the light of the recent Windrush scandal precipitated by the Tory Governments nasty “hostile environment” which has continued to fracture families, cause inherent antagonism in communities against refugees and migrants and exacerbating the already insecure circumstance that precarious migrant and refugees found themselves. The great Ambalavaner Sivanandan (1923 -2018), the Director Emeritus of the Institute of Race Relations, would say “those who eat together, fight together”. We believe this too.
This event, “Hospitable Environment: Solidarity Supper”, organised by us, Sussex Refugee and Migrant Self Support Group, is designed to bring all demographies in our beloved Brighton and Hove community together to share with you our homeland traditional dish, as a symbol of defiance to undermine and beat this abhorrent Tory policy that destroys migrant and refugee's lives creating destitution, homelessness and despair.  We invite you and your family to join us to come to eat together with us in our own very “hospitable environment”, set to breaking down the barrier of the inhumane “hostile environment”. We believe that together we can fight to eradicate and replace the “hostile environment” with love, friendship, solidarity...and FOOD!
This event is family and children friendly.
We will be making an Arabian dish served with love and our countries music. So, come with your dancing shoes on and groove with us!  All proceeds from this event goes to Sussex Refugee and Migrant Self Support Group’s destitution fund.
