Event Information
Description
A foraging walk and herbal tea preparation session, starting at Nunhead Cemetery, led by medical herbalist Rasheeqa Ahmad (www.hedgeherbs.org.uk).
During the session Rasheeqa will share knowledge about seasonal plant identification, plants as medicine and information about conservation and ecosystems. The walk will be followed by creating seasonal herbal tea at hARTslane whilst discussing ideas surrounding health in the community.
There will be drinks and snacks available.
This event is part of ‘House of Covvens - South East London’. The plant material collected will be used to decorate the space and shared as tea in the ‘Covven’ discussions that will happen throughout the week.
‘House of Covvens - South East London’ is an event series and exhibition that questions the meaning of engagement with politics through the imaginative possibilities of an alternative system based on empathy, cooperation and community. It is an idea conceived by artist Jodie Chinn via influences of the Wiccan tradition, shamanism and the DIY ethos of Riot Grrrl feminism.
From the new to the full moon (15th-29th May), it will create a space for local people to come together, reflect, tell stories and share ideas against the backdrop of the current social climate. It is centred around ten group discussions called ‘Covvens’, which, through their structure aim to create a non-hierarchical, communal exploration of ideas and social issues using both conversation and creativity.
On the new, quarter and full moon, there will be sound performances and foraging walks to connect the space with the local and wider environment. It will be open to visit on both weeks 2-6pm Wednesday-Sunday, 11-3 Saturday and will evolve as people interact with it.
