an online creative CPD session by hoot creative arts in partnership with Cultures of Creative Health Creative Health Consultant Jane Willis will lead this session exploring both the joys and challenges of being a freelance creative, and how we can better support ourselves to find balance and sustain our wellbeing.Sharing headline findings from the first ever UK-Wide Musician Census, Jane will unpack some of the structural challenges creatives face.Within the context of these sector-wide challenges, Jane will encourage you to reflect on how you are doing. We will look at what burnout looks like and what you can do to maintain a healthy balance between things that nourish and support and challenge and drain.Jane will share two simple tools: one to help you invite more nourishment into your life, and another to help you manage the challenges.The session will include signposting to further sources of support. Jane was Director of Arts for Barts Health NHS Trust for 7 years and founder and Director of award-winning arts and health consultancy <a href="http://www.willisnewson.co.uk/" title="http://www.willisnewson.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Willis Newson</a> for 22 years, during which time she worked with more than 40 NHS Trusts, Health Boards and charities to establish creative programmes supporting health and wellbeing. She has been closely involved with the wider development of the arts and health sector over many years, consulting, advising and teaching at professional and post-graduate levels. Most recently, she worked with the <a href="https://www.culturehealthandwellbeing.org.uk/resources/creative-health-quality-framework" title="https://www.culturehealthandwellbeing.org.uk/resources/creative-health-quality-framework" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Culture, Health, and Wellbeing Alliance</a> to lead the development of the <a href="https://www.culturehealthandwellbeing.org.uk/resources/creative-health-quality-framework" title="https://www.culturehealthandwellbeing.org.uk/resources/creative-health-quality-framework" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Creative Health Quality Framework</a> which was launched in September 2023. Jane has a MA in English Literature and an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes, and runs regular <a href="https://www.janewillis.co.uk/reflective-journaling" title="https://www.janewillis.co.uk/reflective-journaling" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Reflective Journal</a> workshops supporting those working in the creative sector to pause, reflect and reconnect with themselves and others.

hoot creative arts is an arts and mental health charity based in the town centre of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. For over 22 years, we have been delivering a range of creative activities that support people to take care of their mental health and wellbeing and discover how being creative makes us feel good. hoot is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) and is commissioned jointly by Kirklees Council and the NHS to provide a creative arts programme within the adult mental health service across Kirklees.
