Overview

Quantum Technologies are advancing rapidly with the potential to transform defence and warfighting. Join our panel of experts to learn more.

Join us on 2 June 2026, 18:00–19:30 in Committee Room 8, Parliament for a high-level panel discussion exploring one of the most consequential questions facing UK defence and national security.

Quantum technologies, from sensing and navigation to communications and computing are advancing rapidly, with the potential to fundamentally reshape the character of modern warfare and strategic competition. As adversaries accelerate their own quantum programmes, the UK faces an urgent question: how do we translate world-leading research into deployable defence capability?

Hosted by Dave Robertson MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Quantum Technologies, and the Centre for International Security & Defence Studies, this event brings together leading voices from academia, industry and policy to examine:

  • How quantum sensing and navigation could transform operations in GPS-denied environments
  • The strategic implications of quantum computing for intelligence, logistics and decision-making
  • The post-quantum cryptography threat and what it means for UK defence communications
  • How government, industry and academia can work together to accelerate quantum adoption in defence

Panellists include:

  • Dave Robertson MP — MP for Lichfield and Burntwood and Chair of the APPG for Quantum Technologies
  • Prof. Winfried Hensinger — Professor of Quantum Technologies, University of Sussex
  • Jonathan Legh-Smith CBE — Executive Director, UK Quantum
  • Prof. Viv Kendon — Professor of Quantum Technology, University of Strathclyde
  • Prof. James Millen — Kings Quantum Director, King's College London

The event will be chaired by CISDS Founder & Executive Director Panny Antoniou with networking at a nearby pub to follow.
