A 3 hour poster screen printing workshop exploring what care looks and feels like to you - get creative and share your experiences!

The Printery

Alongside Harriet Rose Morley&#x27;s public art commission for Plymouth Art Weekender, we’re running a one-off 3 hour poster screen printing workshop at The Printery - facilitated by Rachel Dobbs &amp; Sue Lewry.BOOKING ESSENTIAL - Age 16+ (Under 18s will need to be accompanied by someone over 18)NOTE: Full COVID Secure restrictions in place - masks or face coverings will need to be worn continuously &amp; you’ll need to practice social distancing throughout the session. We will also need to keep your contact details on file for 21 days (as per government regulations).Workshop Description:What does care look and feel like to you?We’ll start the workshop using ‘Active Listening’ techniques and activities, to try to deconstruct what we associate and consider to be acts of care - sharing in pairs the varied types of care we have experienced. This might relate to our personal experiences, experiences we have seen from afar, or hypothetical experiences we wish to practice.By listening, transcribing and responding verbally, we will work with words, shapes and experimental screen-printing techniques to make printed posters that represent acts of care we have experienced, taken part in, or plan to undertake.By the end of the session, you will have a poster of your own to take away!NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE NECESSARY16+ ONLY - Due to the content and nature of the workshop, it is not suitable for children or young people under 16. Participants will be able to sit throughout the session using stools provided. The printing table working heights are aprox 1.1m, so may be hard to access for some wheelchair users, or those with limited upper body movement. The workshop facilitators will be on hand throughout to assist with screen pulling. The toilet at The Printery is down aprox 15 steps, with a handrail. There is no lift access to the toilet, but step-free access can be achieved by going outside of the building, down the street and through the back entrance.If you need to bring a personal assistant or carer with you, please make sure to book a ticket for them too. Due to COVID restrictions, we have a strict limit on numbers at the premises to allow everyone to practice social distancing.The workshop facilitators will be using transparent visors during the workshop to allow lip-reading, but other participants will be using masks / face-coverings.There is a quiet space available near the main workshop space which can be used by participants during the workshop as necessary.Due to the content of the workshop (sharing individual experiences of care / caring activities), the workshop facilitators recognise that participants may have differing emotional responses during the session. We encourage participants to only share what feels comfortable to them and their conversation partners, and address potential triggering topics sensitively. Again, the quiet space is available to anyone during the session to support this.All participants will be required to wear masks / face-coverings throughout, so you must bring these with you. If you need to use a visor rather than a mask, please bring this with you.If you have any questions about Access Requirements, please get in touch with Rachel at rdobbs451@gmail.com so that we can do our best to support you.Venue &amp; Parking Info:The workshop will be held at 34 Mutley Plain, Plymouth, PL4 6LDThe Printery is within easy walking distance of Plymouth City Centre (aprox 15 mins, some uphill) and Plymouth Train Station (aprox 10 mins, some uphill). There is no on-street parking at The Printery. The nearest carpark is Mutley Plain Car Park, Napier Terrace, Mutley, Plymouth PL4 6LB - which costs £3 for up to four hours, or £5 for a daily ticket via pay and display machine (chip and contactless card facilities only) or via the RingGo mobile app. There are 4 disabled bays, but charges also apply to Blue Badge holders.The session is 3hrs long, so please make sure you pay for parking to cover the full period of being in the workshop.+++++‘How did we care?
