How do we Make a Black Country Dialect Dictionary?

How do we Make a Black Country Dialect Dictionary?

Overview

Join us to discuss the unique language heritage of the Black Country

Join us to discuss the unique language heritage of the Black Country dialect.

This workshop will talk you through how lexicographers (dictionary makers in particular) track words and decide which to put into a dictionary. We’ll discuss the Black Country dialect dictionaries already in print and there will be a chance to write an entry for your own favourite dialect word. Finally, we’ll think about how dialect might be recorded online so the community can see it and read about its history and future.

You can choose from two different time slots:

10am-12.30pm

1.30pm-4pm

The workshop will take place at Dudley Archives Abbey Room, Tipton Road, DUDLEY DY1 4SQ
