How I Bounced Back from Redundancy

Women in PR is an independent networking organisation for senior women working in the PR industry and also offers associate membership for mid-career women. Through our highly successful annual programme of events, we provide an important forum to enable members to share their experiences, exchange ideas and assist one another in business.Integral to our mission, Women in PR is supporting gender balance in the boardroom, future female talent and the next generation of women leaders in the PR industry.Our membership base reflects the changing dynamics and diversity of our industry with members from all areas of the profession, including board members of the PR Week Top 150 agencies, in-house communications directors, owners of boutique consultancies as well as independent consultants.

A panel event will feature three senior women offering advice about going through redundancy from different perspectives.

This year, we’re continuing our ‘How I…’ series of online events, when senior women in the PR industry share their experiences and offer advice to support and inspire our members.Our first event occurs at 11 am on Friday 9th February and focuses on ‘How I… bounced back from redundancy.This panel event will feature three senior women who will offer advice from different perspectives:Nichola Johnson-Marshall is an ICF ACC credited coach and co-founder of training, career coaching and communications consultancy Working Wonder. Prior to her latest career venture, Nichola had over 25 years of Communications experience, having held senior leadership roles at LinkedIn, Barclays, and lastminute.com. During her communications career, she experienced redundancy twice, and she now runs training workshops to rebuild people's confidence when searching for a new role.Ijeoma Erengwa is an Associate Director at leading recruitment agency Reuben Sinclair, where she has spent the last three years after spending seven years in agency roles. She is well-versed in advising and working with candidates who have experienced redundancy and are looking for their next roles.Etsy UK PR lead Chelsea Cook has had a successful PR career to date by any standards, with roles at leading agencies and in-house positions at Argos, Sainsbury’s and Made.com before joining Etsy a year ago. However, she experienced redundancy and can talk first-hand about what it takes to bounce back and find an even better position.The 45-minute panel event will be hosted by WiPR Committee member Charlie Mulock, with plenty of time for questions from the audience.
