How Past Roles Shape Present Practice

How Past Roles Shape Present Practice

HQ HighburyLondon, England
Friday, Mar 20 from 11 am to 1 pm
Overview

This informal CPD discussion invites therapists to reflect on the personal and professional journeys that inform their therapeutic practice.

About this event

Before becoming therapists, we lived other lives — careers, roles, identities, and experiences that continue to shape the way we work today.

Hosted by James Crossland, an Intergrative Counsellor at HQ Therapy, this informal CPD discussion invites therapists to reflect on the personal and professional journeys that inform their therapeutic practice.

Together, we will explore how our past roles, lived experiences, cultural identities, and personal narratives influence the way we relate to clients and hold therapeutic space.

The aim of this reflective session is to deepen self-awareness, recognise transferable strengths, and consider how our histories can both enrich and challenge our work.

In this session, we will explore:

• Identifying aspects of pre-therapy careers or life experiences that influence therapeutic style.

• Reflecting on transferable skills gained from previous roles.

• Recognising how personal identity, cultural background, and lived experience shape clinical practice.

• Developing greater self-awareness to strengthen the therapeutic relationship

• Exploring how past experiences can be intentionally integrated - or safely bracketed - in therapy work

Who this event is for:

• Qualified therapists

• Counsellors and psychotherapists

• Trainee therapists

• Helping professionals interested in reflective practice

Event format

This will be a relaxed, discussion-based CPD session with opportunities for shared reflection and professional dialogue in a supportive environment.

Spaces are limited to maintain a reflective and conversational atmosphere.

FREE for HQ Members (Contact Alan@hqtherapy.com) - £5 for Non-HQ Members
