How To: Compost workshop
Join a free workshop & learn how to turn your peelings & prunings into gardener’s gold
Your composting journey starts here
Starting composting can be confusing - which compost bin to choose, getting the right mix, avoiding pests... but with a bit of advice and demonstration from those already doing it, you'll find composting is easier than you think.
That's why East London Waste Authority (ELWA) and East Barking Horticultural Association (EBAHA) have launched a brand new Compost Learning Zone, featuring many kinds of compost bins, where we're hosting free composting workshops for residents, groups and organisations.
Join us at our next workshop, and make 2026 the year you started composting!
What will I learn in the workshop?
- Learn about why composting is important for your garden and the planet
- Find out about the different types of compost bins
- See composting in action
- Learn what can and can't be composted and how to create the right mix
- Get your questions answered
- Find out what's on offer to help you get started at home or in the community
Who is the workshop for?
- Individuals, groups, and organisations - whether you're a resident who wants to start composting at home, or a community group or organisation that wants to start your own community composting site - this workshop is for you!
- All knowledge levels are welcome - we'll be covering the basics but can all learn from each other too.
- 4 boroughs - due to limited availability, this opportunity is only for residents, groups and organisations based in ELWA's constituent boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham, and Redbridge. If you're based outside these boroughs we'll unfortunately need to cancel your ticket.
