How to Edit Wikipedia: Workshop

The National Heritage Science Forum (NHSF) brings together leading organisations from across the UK that produce and use heritage science research. Forum members work together to share ideas and innovations, maximise the public benefit from heritage science, and speak with a coherent voice on policy and public issues.Wikimedia UK believes that open access to knowledge is a fundamental right, and a driver for social and economic development. A registered charity, we work with the Wikimedia Projects such as Wikipedia to enable people and organisations to contribute to a shared understanding of the world through the democratic creation, distribution and consumption of knowledge.

National Heritage Science Forum and Wikimedia UK

Since its creation in 2001, Wikipedia has become a valuable source of open knowledge. Created and edited by volunteers, Wikipedia's content is reliant on accurate contributions from many different fields. 
As part of <A HREF="http://www.heritagescienceforum.org.uk/what-we-do/wikimedia" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Wikimedia UK's partnership with NHSF</A>, this training session focuses on learning a basic skillset for editing Wikipedia. This will enable you to add to and enhance content available through Wikipedia. During the session we will focus on heritage science topics. Heritage science is a relatively new field that covers how science can be used to improve the understanding, management and enjoyment of heritage. However, the session is open to all and you do not need to be a heritage scientist to attend, though if you have an interest in archaeology, looking after museum collections, managing historic buildings, materials science, finding new ways to present and interpret heritage - you might find you're more of a heritage scientist than you knew! 
During the workshop, you will gain the skills and confidence that will enable you to contribute to Wikipedia. Trainers from Wikimedia UK will teach you how to create and edit pages, with follow-up resources provided to help you continue to develop these skills after the session. <A HREF="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/NHSF_Project" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Our project page</A> is designed to continue the work begun in the session, providing a central resource for editing heritage science content on Wikipedia. 
The workshop is aimed at beginners: there is no need for any prior experience of editing Wikpedia. You will need basic digital literacy skills (web browsing; copy/pasting etc.), and you will need to bring a laptop to the session.
