Our Speaker: Jo Greenfield:

Jo Greenfield has been a coach for 30 years, helping people to change and develop in performance sport and in business. She has worked in a variety of roles in the pharmaceutical industry and used behavioural economics to develop capability within the sales division.

She now consults with industry, including Merz, Lilly, Sanofi, Vertex, Wallacespace and NHS to help them move faster by implementing behavioural economic principles. She writes a blog on medium and is currently working with obesity specialists to help people who are overweight to make permanent behavioural changes in their lifestyle and lose weight.

Presentation outline:

Behavioural economics and behavioural nudging are everywhere. It’s used by governments to shape our judgment and decision making, marketers to sell their products and politicians to sell their policies. The insights are important and far-reaching.

Economic models are built on assumptions about how people should behave. Behavioural economics is about people actually behave. Flesh and blood humans often do not seem to know what they want or how to get things done in the most logical way.

Through understanding heuristics and bias that influence how people behave, we can nudge people to change their behaviour in line with their self-interest. These principles can be used by HR professionals to make their policies more effective and to improve the uptake of benefits which would be in people’s self interest. Nudging can be quicker and more cost effective than trying to change beliefs and mindsets.

CIPD Chiltern Branch is an important local hub for HR professionals, providing opportunities for continuous professional development and two way communication with Head Office, as well as providing a local touch-point for CIPD members with opportunities for networking.

 

The branch has around 2,200 members from all levels and specialisms across the Human Resources field. From directors to students, we have established links with businesses in the local area as well as the major CIPD course providers (Amersham and Wycombe College, Aylesbury College and Buckinghamshire New University).


Although we have only a limited number of specialist groups, we pride ourselves on providing an annual learning programme that is second to none. Focused around three major hubs, Beaconsfield, Slough and Aylesbury, we hold monthly events that facilitate networking opportunities and personal development in a number of leading edge topics. Through these we strive to help members to develop in their chosen careers and contribute to the success of their organisations.
