The Hunterian and the Global History Hackers are inviting you to join the Hackathon on Examining Humans and Animals in Museum Displays!

What is a Hackathon?Hackathons are co-creative events where a group of people from different backgrounds get together and practically work on a question or problem. It will involve group work, discussing, brainstorming and presenting ideas to each other.

What is the Hunterian Hackathon about?The <a href="https://www.gla.ac.uk/hunterian/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hunterian Museum</a> will host a Hackathon on Examining Humans and Animals in Museum Displays. This will address critical questions about the ethics of collecting and displaying “difficult” objects in museums. <ul><li>Are there objects in the museum which cause us uncomfortable feelings and/or raise difficult questions?</li><li>And if so, how can we deal with these issues and feelings of discomfort? </li><li>Who gets to decide about these questions and how?</li></ul>

Why a Hackathon? We are hoping that this will be a productive format to start creative conversations and create knowledge in a more participatory way that helps to critically question displays, suggest ideas and reflect on the difficulties of collecting and displaying discomforting objects.

Who is involved?This event is organized by a team of <a href="https://www.gla.ac.uk/hunterian/about/contactus/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hunterian staff</a> and University of Glasgow <a href="https://www.gla.ac.uk/research/az/globalhistory/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Global History researchers</a>. It is part of a series of pilot hackathons entitled “Global History Hackathons: Doing Global History through ‘Local’ Archives” initiated by Dr Hannah-Louise Clark from Global Economic and Social History at the University of Glasgow.
