What does Christianity have to say to our search for contentment?

The desire for satisfaction is self-evident. It drives every decision we make. Much of modern life is lived in pursuit of the next dopamine hit. And yet, despite having more stuff, better opportunities and greater freedom than previous generations, lasting contentment feels perpetually out of reach. What’s behind our sense of dissatisfaction? Are we looking for happiness in the wrong places? Unadulterated pleasure-seeking doesn’t seem to work. The high of a night-out quickly fades. No-strings-attached begins to feel empty and stale. Deep down, we know that materialism doesn’t work either. We accumulate more stuff and bigger flats but intuitively feel like there must be something more to life. Do we need to return to ancient answers? Is our contemporary dissatisfaction because we’ve detached ourselves from traditional pathways to human flourishing? Could Christianity be part of the solution to our need for meaning? Join our speaker, writer and author, Simon Edwards, as he explores the reasons for our contemporary discontent and the elusive quest for fulfilment.

About Simon EdwardsSimon is a writer, speaker and author. He speaks nationally and internationally, at public forums, universities (including Oxford, Cambridge, Hong Kong, Oslo, and Queensland), businesses, and government institutions. He is the author of ‘The Sanity of Belief: Why Faith Makes Sense’ (2021) published by SPCK. His work focuses on the relationship between evidence, faith, imagination and reason. Previously a lawyer, Simon holds qualifications in Law, Economics, Education and Theology.
