Doors: 7pmScreening + discussion: 730pmIdentifying The Displaced is an interdisciplinary humanitarian effort which aims to promote and enhance the value of personal effects as a forensic aid in the migration context. The heart of the project is a database of almost 500 personal belongings recovered with identified and unidentified migrants who have lost their lives along the Evros River, a particularly treacherous migratory route separating Turkey and Greece. Attributed to the identities of more than 100 people who died in the Evros region between 2002-22, each object tells the story of what is known about each individual: how and when they were found, what they were wearing, and what they carried with them. Identifying The Displaced was filmed on location in May 2022, with additional material provided by the Forensic Missing Migrants Initiative (FMMI) and anonymous portraits made with the migrant community in Athens. It is being exhibited in several European cities throughout 2023, and makes its German premiere at Floating.The film will act as a starting point for an extended talk by Harry Lawson (artist / filmmaker), Dr Maria Maclennan (forensic jeweller) and Dr Jan Bikker (forensic anthropologist). The team will discuss the work and their methodologies, touching on the intersections of their collaborative practice. Taking Floating&#x27;s context and location into account, they will focus on bodies of water as a crucial subtext to the film and the project at large. How are bodies of water weaponised in the context of migration? How does a river in Greece relate to personal effects? The event will be followed by a Q&amp;A + discussion.
