IFMA-RICS will be holding the IFMA UK Chapter’s Workplace Week fringe event, for the morning of the 12th November, we'd love for you to take part. This time we’ll be looking at how one builds an international career in workplace management, helping FMs align their skillsets with the changes we’re seeing in the industry.
An estimated 25 million people around the globe work in facilities management, and 70% of them are over the age of 47. Our industry sports an ageing workforce and in the next few years, half of the FMs around the world will be retiring. So, when those 17.5 million professionals step aside, who will fill their shoes? And what skills will the future FM need in line with the changing world of work? 
Nobody can deny that FM is advancing in a new direction and becoming increasingly complex as it does so. We must adapt or risk being left behind. Part of that involves recognising the impact of the industry’s global expansion. An increased level of global mobility, calls for a different set of skills. And the data tsunami heading our way demands a different, more tech and data savvy future leader.
In addition to bringing a new standard and new consistency to the industry, IFMA and RICS exists to make facilities and workplace management a career of choice. Sean Tompkins, RICS CEO, argues that only by uniting the global FM community and by sharing guidance from professional, world-leading experts can we define the future of the profession.
Our panellists will share their stories and advice to those who don’t want their careers to be confined by borders – geographical, digital, or otherwise.
