Overview
This hands-on professional learning session explores how iPad can unlock creativity across the Curriculum for Wales. Participants will experience practical ways to support learners to express ideas, demonstrate understanding, and communicate creatively using built-in Apple apps.
Please attend this session with the following apps installed on your iPad:
- iMovie
- Keynote
- GarageBand
- Pages
During the session we will explore four creative approaches:
Storyboarding and Video Creation with iMovie
Plan and produce visual stories using storyboards to help learners structure ideas, explain concepts, and create short curriculum-linked videos.
Animating Concepts with Keynote
Use Keynote’s animation and design tools to help learners bring ideas to life, model processes, and explain complex concepts through simple animations.
Audio Storytelling with GarageBand
Create engaging audio experiences including podcasts, soundscapes, and narrated stories to support literacy, creativity, and expressive communication.
Interactive Books with Pages
Design multimedia books that combine text, images, drawings, audio, and video to enable learners to showcase their understanding in creative ways.
Session Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will:
- Understand how iPad tools can support creativity within the Curriculum for Wales.
- Explore practical ways to use Apple apps to support learner expression and storytelling.
- Develop ideas for embedding creative digital outcomes within curriculum design.
Success Criteria
Participants will:
- Create a simple storyboard and short video concept using iMovie.
- Animate an idea or process using Keynote.
- Record a short audio piece using GarageBand.
- Design the structure of a multimedia learning resource using Pages.
What Practitioners Will Gain
- Greater confidence using iPad to support creative expression across the curriculum.
- Practical strategies for enabling learners to communicate ideas through video, animation, audio, and digital publishing.

Session overview and objectives. Creativity within the Curriculum for Wales. Why creative digital outcomes matter for learner expression and engagement.

Storytelling Through Video with iMovie
Introduction to storyboarding as a learning strategy. Example curriculum uses (e.g. explaining a process, retelling a story, documenting learning). Demonstration: Planning and creating a simple storyboard and short video. Hands-on activity: Participants create a short storyboard and begin filming a simple video.

Animating Ideas with Keynote
How animation supports conceptual understanding and explanation. Demonstration: Using Magic Move, builds, and object animations. Curriculum examples (science processes, maths strategies, historical events). Hands-on activity: Participants create a short animated explanation of a concept.
