Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom (SRUK/CERU)is an independent and non-profit organisation without any political affiliation. SRUK/CERU was created in July 2011 and officially established in June 2012 (Certified Company House of England and Wales Registry #8160501).SRUK/CERU was created to promote communication within the community of Spanish Researchers working in the United Kingdom. This association also aims to help closing the gap between Scientists and the general public from British and Spanish societies. Moreover, SRUK/CERU seeks to develop collaborations between this community and Research and Development-related institutions and businesses in Spain and the UK.SRUK carries out the processing of personal data in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 1998/General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) www.ico.org.uk. You can access a copy of the SRUK Data Protection Policy LINK. <A TARGET="_blank" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">After the success of the 2018 event</A>, we are pleased to announce the II Edition of the SRUK Scientific Computing Workshop!
Obtaining your research data is a long and difficult path. Therefore, being able to properly analyse these data is crucial to understand your results. If, at some point, you have thought about learning the basic programming skills to speed up your data analyses, this is the opportunity you have been looking for!
This 1-day long hands-on event will guide you through your first steps of scientific computing: what it can be used for, what tools are out there to automate different tasks, the basic use of the terminal, and two of the most popular computer languages: R and Python.

WORKSHOP CONTENTS - Basic Bash skills for beginners: the terminal is your friend! - R and Python for data analysis, learn the most powerful tools at your fingertips! - Join other participants so you can solve together a series of exercises.
REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND THE WORKSHOP - Basic/beginner level: This event has been designed for those people who are motivated to get started into the programming world. Therefore, you should not attend this workshop if you have an intermediate/advanced programming level, mainly because you will not learn anything new. Attendance to this course is limited, so we would like that the available places can be filled by people without programming experience so they can have the chance to get themselves started.
- Your own laptop: We will use R and Python during the workshop, so we will need you have the corresponding software installed before the workshop. After the registration, we will send you a message to join a google group in which we will share the material for the workshop and can remotely assist you to set up your laptop for the workshop, in case you struggle with software installation. Note that this course is not limited to Linux users, as this software is also available for Windows and Mac OS users! Either if you use any Linux distribution, Mac OS X, or Windows; if you are eager to start your path in programming, this course is for you!
