A guided photowalk and workshop exploring Grimsby's dockside through phones, thermal print cameras and short written observations.
Join artist Wes Foster for an exploration of Grimsby’s dockside: noticing the details of a place that’s been shaped by the sea, industry and time, and finding new ways to see and record it.
Taking place as part of the Festival of the Sea, this workshop uses phones and thermal print cameras as tools for looking differently. After a short introduction, participants set out on a guided walk around Alexandra Dock and the Fishing Heritage Centre, using a specially designed prompt card to capture places, sounds, atmospheres, textures and things that catch their eye: through photography, writing, or both.
Thermal cameras produce instant lo-fi prints you take home on the day.
With an emphasis on exploration and play over polished outcomes, we’ll use the images and fragments we collect together to create a collective response to the site.
We will meet outside the Fishing Heritage Centre.
Suitable for all levels of experience. Smartphones welcome — no specialist kit needed. Please wear suitable outdoor footwear and clothing appropriate for the weather.
This workshop is part of supporting participants to enter the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre open photography exhibition.
