Event description

The Movement Academy - Salsa on2 (Mambo) Workshop

We present to you ‘The Movement Academy’ - Comprising international teachers, performers and choreographers - @Tarek Demerdash, @Angelique Sinclaire and @Andrea Stewart - are putting together an exclusive 4 hour on2 intensive and comprehensive Salsa workshop on the 9th of July in London.

Each of your teachers has a wealth of experience, originally training with some of the world’s most authoritative on2 teachers and all have taught, performed and represented their countries at a top international level. They have been asked to judge several competitions and have choreographed for professionally paid dance groups. Most importantly all are of the firm belief that development is forever ongoing and their passion for music, dance and sharing with others has been the inspiration for this event.

This workshop will be comprehensive focussing on warmup and body isolations, footwork, leadable partner work and styling. You will learn in great detail the intricacies involved in not just dancing on 2, but why dancing on2 is not unequivocally the same as dancing Mambo!

The workshop on the 9th of July is targeted to all levels, regardless of whether you are a beginner, improver, intermediate or advanced dancer as our core belief is that one can never learn all that there is to learn.

15:00-16:00 – Partner work Classes

Connections – 3 levels of concurrent partner work classes.

We will teach these classes by showing how to correctly lead and follow in order to take you’re dancing to the next level.

This will include spinning technique and the correct counts of execution. All of the partnerwork taught, is designed to be socially leadable, both successfully and more importantly safely!

  1. On2 Partnerwork fundamentals

    1. Suitable for absolute beginners

16:00-17:00 – Musicality with movement – Open level class suitable for all dancers.

We firmly believe that the way you dance should be dictated by the music you are listening to. We explore the different types of salsa music and the instruments that are typically presented. You will learn how to listen to and adapt you’re dancing to the changes in the music such as adapting your partner work, breaking apart from your partner and knowing when to reconnect.

What to wear?

Come dressed to sweat – You are going to workout! :-)

  • Socks and trainers for warm up isolations

  • Heels, flats, jazz shoes for partner work and footwork classes

  • Change of T-Shirt if you tend to sweat a lot

  • Deodorant!

Trainers are not recommended if you care about your knees!

Finally, watch out for exciting news on our new studio based courses with mirrors, beginning in September 2017.
