IMPACT: Reaching Out

Cartwheel Arts promotes social inclusion, cohesion, diversity and regeneration through community participation in vibrant, innovative, high-quality arts projects. We use a wide range of media to initiate, and respond to, project opportunities in Rochdale and surrounding areas, as well as promoting the development of the arts and examples of good practice across the North West.

<H2 CLASS="MsoNormal">IMPACT: Reaching Out conference focuses on using creativity to achieve meaningful engagement and positive mental wellbeing outcomes.</H2>
<H3 CLASS="MsoNormal">Aimed at health professionals, arts organisations, third sector partners and the education sector, delegates will take part in inspirational workshops and presentations for a unique and immersive experience.</H3>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal">Covering a range of engaging projects and insights on arts and health our speakers include:</P>

<LI>Clive Parkinson is the Director of Arts for Health at Manchester Metropolitan University; the UK’s longest established arts and health unit. Sharing his passion and wealth of experience, Clive offers his perspective on the positive impact the arts can have on mental wellbeing, while offering some gentle words of caution around political spin and hype that surround our growing agenda.</LI>
<LI><SPAN>All children and young people deserve to flourish in their educational setting. Special guests Erica & Emily from Rochdale Borough Council's Early Help & Schools department will present how they have worked with a number of local arts based companies to create impactful tools to s</SPAN><SPAN>upport staff and children in schools.</SPAN><BR></LI>
<LI><SPAN>START are Inspiring Minds through their recent project,</SPAN><SPAN> <SPAN>Creative Escapes, working with partners who support people with Dementia.</SPAN> <SPAN>Rachel Jones (Project Manager) will be presenting how the project was</SPAN> <SPAN>delivered and their findings when comparing two different engagement</SPAN> <SPAN>methods.</SPAN></SPAN></LI>
<LI>Emily Weygang, Senior Project Manager, will discuss how Arc (Arts for Recovery in the Community) reaches and engages the most vulnerable people, through a wide range of creative activities, including those who have fallen through the gaps of more mainstream services.<BR></LI>
<LI>Paul Hine, director of Made by Mortals, is presenting the project, Ears Against Loneliness. This project uses video marketing as a tool to engage with others. Paul will open up discussion on how we can make sense of what has been achieved through video marketing and will look at this in relation to their aims as an organisation. How can technology be used going forward to support our impact, recruitment, evaluation, building awareness, marketing and business development? And more generally, if a piece of art is viewed online by thousands of people what value does that have?</LI>

<H3>Demonstrating a person-centred approach for creative projects</H3>
<P><SPAN>An introduction to project design, based on the Design Thinking method, which places the beneficiaries needs at the centre and promotes innovation. <P CLASS="MsoNoSpacing">Discover the art making process and creative exploration as a participant within a safe space. Reflect upon the creative process and your experience as a group. <P CLASS="MsoNoSpacing"> This creative workshop encourages a new perspective of observation, artmaking and sensory reflection on the elements of engagement through creativity. It is an opportunity to think creatively about a concept that has no boundaries into what is possible, a space to design, collaborate and reveal what is important to you. <H3 CLASS="MsoNormal">And Fallen Angels Dance Theatre take us on a jouney of movement.</H3>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal">Fallen Angels Dance Theatre’s Claire Morris co-founder and executive director will lead a “Movement in Recovery” workshop, to give an insight into their innovative practice that enhances recovery from addiction. </P>

<H2 CLASS="MsoNormal">And it doesn't stop there! This is the <EM>Game On!</EM> section of the day...</H2>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal">Hear from Hwa Young Jung, a multidisciplinary artist working in the arts, cultural and sciences, facilitating collaborative workshops and projects. She led the development of <I>Probationary: The Game of Life on Licence. </I>This game explores the lived experience of being on probation. Taking the form of a board game, <EM>Probationary</EM> takes its players on a journey through the eyes of four playable characters as they navigate the complexities of the probation process. <P CLASS="MsoNormal">Healthy Steps was commissioned by the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale CCG to help young people and their families to begin to understand which are the best services to choose for the treatment of certain health conditions.</P>

<P CLASS="MsoNormal">'Manopoly' was developedby The Men's Room, as part of a 6 month residency facilitated by local artists Paul Gent and Andrea Joesph and reflects the men's desire to share their experience of the city they call home. Manopoly exemplifies the power of both process and product.</P>
