<h2></h2><h2>Welcome to Women in Tech York's August event!</h2><h2>Who are we?</h2><p>Women in Tech York is a community of like-minded individuals studying, working or interested in technology. Our goal is to run events where we can share our knowledge and interests, as well as encourage and empower one another. Our events are not exclusive to women; we welcome anyone passionate about tech and increasing diversity in the field. Events run on the 2nd Thursday of the month. </p><p>We also welcome all students who are interested in learning more about Tech, and career progression in the industry.</p><h2>This month...</h2><p>We're exploring how improv can improve your confidence and networking with a workshop delivered by Martin Huckle.</p><p>Martin is a Test Manager but never wanted to be a manager so maybe he’s a Test Lead really and definitely and joyfully a Squad Lead at BJSS looking after over 30 people pastorally.
</p><p>Still somewhat unsure how his career travelled through Lab technician, IT Consultant, Developer, Business Analyst Scrum Master and almost every flavour of tester he’s absolutely delighted to be where he is now and puts a lot of the blame on discovering clowning, improv and physical theatre a bit over a decade ago.
</p><p>He now spreads his time between family, clowning and improv and more recently archery.</p><p>As always, there will be a free buffet (vegetarian and vegan options available) thanks to our sponsor BJSS . If you let us know about your requirements at least 72 hours in advance we'll pass them on to the venue and ask them to accommodate. </p><p>If you have any concerns about the food on the night then please speak to  a member of staff. Nutritional information can be found on Revolution's website. If you need to know what food will be provided ahead of time then please let us know.</p><p><em>I﻿s this event accessible? </em></p><ul><li>The room booked for this event is upstairs, but can be accessed by a lift. Please contact Revolution to confirm access to the lift </li><li>W﻿e usually use Google Slides and can turn on captions if required</li><li>W﻿e ask our speakers to use the microphones provided</li><li>W﻿e have  exclusive access to the upstairs toilets - please note there are 2 steps up to access these toilets specifically, though other toilets are available</li></ul><p><em>Is this event inclusive ? </em></p><p>We try our best to make sure everyone feels included and welcome at Women in Tech York events</p><ul><li>P﻿ronoun stickers are available for everyone (if your pronoun isn't provided please let us know and we'll get more created to include you)</li><li>R﻿ed camera badges are available to indicate that you don't want to be photographed</li><li>M﻿usic is kept to a low volume</li></ul><p><em>What if I have to cancel?</em></p><p>We completely understand that sometimes life happens, and you won't be able to attend. Where possible, we ask that you cancel at least 48 hours in advance - it costs us approximately £15 per attendee to run these events, and if we have enough notice we can reduce waste by planning for less attendees. </p><p>Y﻿ou can cancel your ticket via Eventbrite, or you can get in touch using any of the methods above.</p><p>P﻿lease note that donations are not refundable. </p><p><em>What are donations for?</em></p><p>Donations cover the cost of running the events, until we can find a third sponsor. Please note that we are not currently a registered charity. </p><p>T﻿he suggested donation amount is £4 - £8. The cost per attendee (not including costs covered by sponsors) is approximately £4, and, as not everyone will be in a position to contribute, it would be greatly appreciated if those in a position to cover the costs for an additional person could do so. This will hopefully prevent us from having to charge a fixed amount in future, if we're unable to find another sponsor. </p><h2>Code of Conduct</h2><p>The short version of our code of conduct is be respectful. Everyone here is part of our community.
