Overview

We discuss how to teach problem solving in primary maths through the use of models, supported by our new maths problem solving content.

Join Becky Brown, Twinkl’s Primary Maths Education Content Lead, and Jon Cripwell, Twinkl’s Primary Maths National Education Lead, in our third session exploring the explicit teaching of problem solving in primary maths.

In this session, we will explore explicitly teaching the use of mathematical models - from Year 1 drawings to Year 6 algebraic representations - to reveal problem structures. We will discuss the value in helping pupils to externalise and organise their thinking when faced with non-routine problems.

This session is perfect for KS1 and KS2 teachers and maths leads who want to support independence in pupils when choosing and using mathematical models.

You will leave the session with practical strategies and a toolkit of key questions to support the explicit teaching of mathematical modelling in your problem solving classroom.
