Paul is an award-winning social entrepreneur, who has been in the vanguard of LGBTQ+ rights and services in the UK for over 35 years.

He has grown the provision of life-affirming and life-saving support services, cementing LGBT Foundation's position as one of the UK’s most impactful charities. Today, LGBT Foundation supports over 45,000 people a year, and has reached over a million people since its inception.

Paul is a dynamic force and has never been content with the status quo. His relentless drive for progress has helped shape national policy and improve lives in profound ways. Examples of his influence include:

  • One of a number of leading voices in the campaign for Civil Partnerships and Equal Marriage.
  • As the Chair of the National LGBT Partnership for over a decade, successfully lobbying for a National LGBT Health Advisor, helping to shape the national LGBT Survey and the subsequent National LGBT Action Plan.
  • Leading a campaign that successfully saw the NHS begin to monitor sexual orientation, driving the capturing of data that will ensure greater visibility and accountability in health services.
  • Playing a pivotal role in the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity questions in the 2021 UK census, giving us, for the first time, meaningful data about the size and needs of our LGBTQ+ communities.

Sarah Miguel, Director of Fundraising & Marketing, LGBT Foundation, will set the context about the Foundation followed by an interview with Paul.

They will be discussing past, present and future of LGBTQ+ equality and leadership, ahead of International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT) 2025.
