Overview

Transition Together's Youth Circle are bringing their short film, ‘In the Making’ to Totnes.

This evening of intergenerational connection, community building and youth power will take place at the Totnes Civic Hall on Thursday 12th March 6-9pm.

It brings together in collaboration the Youth Circle, Transition Town Totnes and Circlewise's Wellbeing Champions project.

A message from the Youth Circle:

‘In the Making' is an evening about possibility and power. The film follows young people across the UK who are navigating their own unique paths and driving social change. On the 12th of March, our short film will be a springboard for our community to come together and answer crucial questions: what might be possible if we supported young people to be fully resourced and turn up in social movements? How can we practice intergenerational collaboration in a way that empowers us all? How do we stoke the fire of our youth, nurture passion into action, and create leaderful communities?

In the Making isn't your regular film screening. As well as watching the film, we will connect by sharing food, embodied practice inspired by Joanna Macy's The Work that Reconnects, 1-1 sharing – and more. Come along to channel the power and possibility that is inside us all.

Where did 'In the Making' come from?

The journey of this film has been transformational. In February 2026, we - 8 young strangers - met up at the Transition Town National Assembly in Wilmslow, Manchester. The Transition Towns movement knew they needed more young people involved, so we were offered support to attend. We spoke about what it was like to be a young person today. We spoke about the strengths and struggles of trying to make change and live by our hearts. We spoke about what the movement could do to support young people to be resourced and turn up fully.

After the Assembly, we kept meeting up. We knew that this was just the start and that there was so much more work to be done. Having felt the power of being heard and seen at the Assembly, we decided to go out and start collecting, amplifying and storytelling other young voices from across the UK. Story by story, our film was built: ‘In the Making’.

Now, we are in Totnes. We want to use our little creation to weave community and intergenerational power. Two of our very own crew - Brad, living in Totnes, and George in Bristol - are co-creating the evening with local folk, young and old.

We hope to see you all very, very soon! ;)

Where will ticket proceeds go?

The proceeds from ticket sales will go towards paying the young organisers of this event, and support future In The Making screening events in other towns and cities. Tickets include a nourishing shared meal, teas, coffees and snacks! We are also offering bursary tickets, as well as £5 tickets for young people and those on low income. So our ticket sales will also go to ensuring that we do not impose financial barriers, and that all people can attend.

There will also be tickets available on the door.

As well as Transition Town Totnes, this screening is also being supported by Circlewise and their Wellbeing Champions Project. Wellbeing Champions is a youth wellbeing project, which is all about empowering young people to bring wellbeing to their community, and is funded by the Sovereign Network Group. Young people have been given full autonomy to spend a grant and craft their own community events. Brad and Kassia, two young leaders who are crafting the film night, say 'not only have we been empowered with financial resource by Circlewise, but we have been given spaces to create, bond, take care of ourselves, and train as facilitators.'
