We're excited to welcome Vona Groarke to Blackwell's in partnership with the University of Manchester's Centre for New Writing to hear her read from and discuss her latest poetry collection, Infinity Pool. Vona will be in conversation with Padraig Regan.
Doors: 6.30pm, starts: 6.45pm
Tickets are £4. Admission is free when purchasing a copy the book.
About the book:
Just as an infinity pool gives the illusion of one invisible edge, the dividing line between poems and the world they process can be magically tricky to discern.
Infinity Pool, Vona Groarke’s ninth poetry collection and fifteenth book, tests the limits of spaces poems make for themselves.
In language precise, luminous and spry, these poems write into the point where anything might slip into something else – the Atlantic become an actor; a luggage carousel be a reckoning; a poem nudge itself gently over its own fourth wall. From the author of work previously described as ‘exquisite, pitch-perfect’ (PNR) and ‘for the ages’ (Dublin Review of Books), this is an ingenious, exhilarating collection from one of our foremost poets.'
About the author:
Vona Groarke joined the Creative Writing team in September 2007. A graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, and University College, Cork, she has previously worked in the UK, the United States and Norway. She co-held the Heimbold Chair in Irish Studies at Villanova University in Pennsylvania in 2004 and taught at Wake Forest University up to 2007.
