About this event

Once a month, I'll be hosting a traditional Kundalini Yoga class at The Bisley Yurt.

Kundalini Yoga is a spiritual and physical practice rooted in ancient Indian traditions. It aims to awaken dormant spiritual energy, known as "kundalini," believed to be coiled at the base of the spine.

Key aspects of Kundalini Yoga include:

Breathing Exercises: Kundalini Yoga emphasises specific breathing techniques (pranayama) to activate and move the kundalini energy.

Postures: Physical postures are simpler compared to other types of yoga, focusing on facilitating energy flow rather than complicated poses.

Chanting and Mantras: The practice involves repeating sounds or phrases (mantras) to enhance the spiritual experience, seen as a powerful way to raise awareness.

Hand Gestures and Body Locks: Kundalini Yoga uses specific hand positions (mudras) and body locks (bandhas) to control the flow of energy.

Meditation: Meditation is a crucial part of Kundalini Yoga, using various techniques to calm the mind and connect with higher consciousness.

Chakra Focus: Kundalini Yoga pays attention to energy centers in the body, called chakras, aiming to balance and activate these points for the upward movement of kundalini energy.

Kriyas: Structured exercises involving postures, breathwork, and meditation are designed to have specific effects on the body, mind, and spirit.

In this 1 hour 15-minute class, we'll practice pranayama, a kriya, and a mantra meditation. I'll provide instructions for you to continue these practices at home until the next session, allowing for a deeper experience and transformation.

Optional: According to Kundalini Yoga philosophy, the human body has an electromagnetic field or aura. White clothing is thought to expand and strengthen this energy field, providing a sense of protection and elevation of consciousness. It's important to note that while wearing white is a common tradition in Kundalini Yoga, it is not a strict requirement.
