Event Descripton:

Innovate Now is an all-new and invite-only event hosted by hedgehog lab.

Our first event will explore innovation frameworks and processes, providing a practical insight into how to develop a more innovative culture within your business. We will help you to identify areas for improvement within your business, and inspire you to achieve positive change.

We will also present a practical case study designed to aid your understanding of the theory and demonstrate how a major international organisation has successfuly implemented the concepts to their benefit.

Speaker Profile - Paul Sutherland:

Paul Sutherland FCIM AMRS, Senior Partner at +ADD Strategy has over 20 years of experience in technology commercialisation and design thinking.

Paul will be on hand to explain how embracing agile and design-led innovation in corporate environments enables leaders to identify where change is needed and how to effectively implement the concepts.

Paul's talk will explore the challenges in and approaches to solving 'big' problems and exploiting 'abstract' opportunities, as well as discussing how to accelerate transformation in complex and political environments using open innovation, contemporary agile and design thinking methods, along with case studies.

With extensive experience of working in design thinking across a broad business interface, Paul is experienced in inspiring improvement in organisations. He is working with a variety of clients ranging from supporting the development of subsea robots to creating smarter cities.

He is very active with NWL where +ADD has delivered 16 innovation projects in the past 2 years. As well as running his own agencies in strategic marketing, innovation support and design, he is a lecturer at Newcastle University Business School.

Previously, Paul has also been Director of Innovation at NCFE, Assistant Director of marketing strategy at Northumbria University and manager of the Centre for Technology Commercialisation, a multimillion pound NE programme.

Paul has also supported a range of professional bodies, third sector and business support agencies as well as invested initiatives as a Non-Executive Director, trustee or board advisor. You can see more about Paul here.

Speaker Profile - Kimberley Abbott:

Kimberley Abbott is responsible for Customer Innovation and Strategic Growth at Thales. Kim's role consists of devloping new markets, products and services, which requires her to analyse future trends and be at the forefront of innovation.

Named as one of the Financial Review's Top 100 Women of Influence, Kim was named the 2012 Young Australian Citizen of the Year and has also been a member of the official Austrailian Government Delegation to the United Nations Commission.

Elsewhere, Kim helped to create the world's most advanced artificial heart, co-founded and ran the successful ‘Yes WE(women Engineers) can!’ girls in engineering program and was the co-founder and CEO of Roka, an award-winning social enterprise developed to break the cycle of poverty in rural India through economic empowerment of women and education.

A social entrepeneur, popular public speaker, consultant, businesswoman, mentor and leader with years of experience in innovation, Kim will provide a more practical outlook on the implementation of innovation methods. We are delighted to have her on board. You can find more about Kim here.

Guests are free to help themselves to a drink, chat with attendees and enjoy the build up to the first of our guest speakers' talks.

6:30pm - 7:15pm: Paul Sutherland on Agile and Design-Led Innovation in Corporate & Institutional Environments:

Paul discusses the challenges in and approaches to solving complex issues, approaches which allow us to take advantage of opportunities and methods which accelerate the rate at which transformation occurs.

7:15pm - 7:45pm: Food & Networking:

Guests are free to grab themselves another drink, discuss the previous talk ahead of and enjoy some delicious treats ahead of the second half of the event.

7:30pm - 8:15pm: Kimberley Abbott, Thales - Case Study:

Kimberley will explore how the innovative global security, aerospace, and transport solutions provider

8:15pm - 8:30pm: Q&A.

What is the nearest station to the event venue?

The nearest train station to hedgehog lab is Newcastle Central Railway Station, located just an 8-minute walk from the station. Manors Metro station is the closest inner-city rail service, but if arriving via train it is advised to walk or get a taxi for convenience.

Is there any parking available?

There will be free limited parking spaces outside Generator Studios on the night of the event. Car park users should request a parking pass from a volunteer upon arrival. Alternatively, there is a multi-storey parking facility just around the corner.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You do not have to bring your printed ticket to the event, however, there will be a registration process upon arrival (see the event schedule above for more), and as such you will be required to have notified us of your intent to attend to guarantee your seat.

Will there be food and/or drink?

Of course. As hosts of the event, hedgehog lab will provide a range of soft drinks, beers, coffee and food to make sure you don't go home hungry or thirsty!

Does the event actually start at 6pm?

In a word, no. As per the event schedule, there will be a 30-minute registration and networking period prior to us getting under way, so don't worry if you're unsure if you can make it for 6pm sharp. We do ask that you are here by 6:30pm so we can get under way promptly.
