For many years, Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs), Potential Driving Instructors (PDIs), and Instructor Trainers have expressed the same concerns:

  • They do not feel listened to.
  • They have concerns about training quality.
  • They have concerns about the qualification process.
  • They have concerns about fairness, transparency, and standards.
  • They do not feel in control of the process

These concerns have been raised repeatedly across forums, training events, consultations, and everyday conversations within the profession.

Too often, those voices feel unheard. We listened. And now we are offering a step forward.

The InPUT Trainers Workshop has been created to bring experienced trainers together to do something constructive.

To not simply to criticise the system. But to design something better.

This event brings together instructor trainers from across the industry, the country and from a wide range of backgrounds, to identify the gaps in the current system and define what modern instructor training should look like.

The outcome will be the foundation of a structured document outlining:

  • Minimum standards for instructor training
  • Improvements to the ADI qualification pathway
  • Clear expectations for trainer competence and oversight
  • Practical reforms that improve the quality and fairness of training

These proposals will form the basis of a draft industry manifesto, which will be shared with the DVSA and key stakeholders.
