SurfIn Workshop: Insights into Processes at Minerals and Materials Surfaces and Interfaces

The nanoscale characterisation of minerals and materials surfaces and interfaces is key to the understanding and the control of interface processes, including adsorption, transport and reactivity. This will not only affect geochemical processes but also any industrial and technological applications that exploit these processes.

This workshop aims to bring together the computational and the experimental community active in such research. Our aim is to promote combined approaches and interdisciplinary collaborations that can provide atomistic details of the structures and processes at surfaces and interfaces to aid and rationalise their exploitation in environmental and technological applications.

The meeting is free to attendees. It is open to all researchers working on surfaces and interfaces, independently of their application. Particularly, this is a great opportunity for PhD students at any stage of their PhD to present their research in a relaxed environment, and to discuss it with senior researchers and fellow PhD students.

Attendees are invited to submit a title for their poster to m.molinari@hud.ac.uk, alongside any dietary requirements. Further information is available on https://cmm-group.github.io/News.html, where the list of invited talks and posters will be updated regularly.

Workshop Dates: Mon, 17 June 2019, 12:00 – 17:00 Location: Joseph Priestley South Building, Room JP2/18, Department of Chemical Sciences, School of Applied Sciences, University of Huddersfield, Queensgate, Huddersfield, HD1 3DH (Building 24 on the map: www.hud.ac.uk/media/assets/document/maps/CampusMap.pdf) Sponsors: CCP5 www.ccp5.ac.uk Organisers: Marco Molinari & David J. Cooke & Samuel Moxon (University of Huddersfield) Agenda: The meeting starts at midday with lunch and will continue with talks from 13:00 and break-off round-the table discussions. The meeting finishes at 17:00.

Speakers include,

Dr Sandra Galmarini (Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, Switzerland)

Dr Alessandro Patti (University of Manchester, UK) - Molecular Dynamics of glycerol under nanoconfinement

Dr Jonathan Skelton (University of Manchester, UK) - Connecting theory with experiment: Raman spectroscopy of organic crystal surfaces

Mr Adam Symington (University of Bath) - Developing Software for Your PhD Research
