Young Womxn’s Music Project present a workshop on being inclusive in your social enterprise or charity without announcing it - this session gives you a chance to explore ways in which you can hold integrity in your inclusion. YWMP will use this space to help you avoid tokenism and help the gatekeepers of your organisation become more aware of the privilege and power they hold, and how that affects who accesses your services.<a href="https://www.ywmp.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Young Womxn's Music Project</a> is feminism in action.They aim to build a sisterhood of young people by providing an inclusive, non-judgemental, safe space for musical and creative expression.YWMP provides a supportive space for young womxn* to get together to make music, learn new skills, express themselves, and grow in confidence. They are based in Oxford, with a focus on working with womxn aged 14-21 years old. They're much more than a charity, or a music project: they're a community, building power as womxn through the arts. * ‘womxn’ is a term to challenge the limitations of conventional ‘womanhood’; this is an alternative spelling with roots in Black feminist activism, dating back to the 1970s. YWMP includes trans-women and non-binary people.Who is it for?This workshop will bring together individuals and organisations interested in inclusion, and challenging the status quo.The speakersZahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani, Director - YWMPFrom an attendee to Director, Zahra has been part of YWMP since it's formative years in Oxford in the Ark T studio, and evolved the project to the inspiring charity it is today, providing safety and support for young people in Oxford. After Operation Bullfinch made visible the systematic and large-scale sexual abuse of young people in Oxfordshire, Zahra helped to organize WO-MAN-ITY festival as a means to support and guide young women in a society where violence against women is repressed and female voices ignored. The event provided self-defence classes and discussion surrounding sexual violence as well as performances and workshops.This was the beginning of YWMP hosting a number of events in order to encourage women and hip hop artists to be heard in Oxfordshire and beyond. Events were held at Central Saint Martins and the Ashmolean Museum, allowing young people to take control of a place that was seen as inaccessible or hostile to them.
