Efruz Kaya: Interactive Memory Game

Scottish Refugee Council is an independent charity that has been supporting people seeking refugee protection in Scotland for forty years. We provide essential information, expert advice and practical support to help people understand their rights and rebuild their lives here. We also campaign for a fair and humane asylum system and work to champion a movement of people dedicated to making Scotland a more welcoming and peaceful place to live.

Scottish Refugee Council

An interactive memory game exploring how migrants and refugees shape Glasgow’s collective memory through stories, spaces, and everyday life

The Hidden Gardens

What makes a city truly belong to its people? This interactive experience invites participants to explore Glasgow through a different lens — one shaped by migration, memory, and shared cultural practices. Working in small groups, participants will move between a series of “memory stations” by solving clues and puzzles. Each station reveals a different story, guided by a storyteller, uncovering how migrant and refugee communities have contributed to the city’s social, cultural, and everyday life — from food and neighbourhoods to moments of solidarity and belonging. Blending play, storytelling, and collective reflection, the event creates a space where participants not only discover hidden narratives of the city but also actively engage in remembering together. It offers a playful yet meaningful way to challenge dominant narratives and highlight migrants and refugees as active makers of Glasgow. Taking place at The Hidden Gardens as part of Grace Browne’s exhibition closing event, the game loosely connects with themes of migration as an ongoing and intergenerational experience — bridging inherited stories with the living memory of the city today.
