Join LIAS for the launch of 'Interdisciplinary Walks', a project led by Dr Anna McKay exploring the benefits of walking for research

The Interdisciplinary Walks project was initiated to better understand the often unconscious elements of research processes. Through the lens of walking, researchers articulated how skills such as problem-solving, reflection and both connection and disconnection are cultivated.For this project, Dr McKay interviewed 29 researchers across all three Colleges at the University to identify how walking has become an integral part of their research process. Findings revealed walking serves a multitude of purposes, and fell into roughly four categories: walking alone, or together, walking to focus, and walking to disconnect. By understanding our individual walking preferences, researchers can harness the potential of walking as a tool to improve mind, body, and research. Part of the LIAS Working Paper Series, &#x27;Interdisciplinary Walks: Investigating the benefits of walking for research&#x27;, reflects on the project’s findings and <a href="https://doi.org/10.29311/lwps.202294112" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">can be accessed here</a>. Additionally, Dr McKay&#x27;s work has been picked up by the Times Higher Education. The article, Walk the walk to benefit your academic research, <a href="https://www.timeshighereducation.com/campus/walk-walk-benefit-your-academic-research" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">can be read online</a>. Reflections from researchers were captured visually by graphic designer Amy McKay and the design team at Nifty Fox Creative. From this, Dr McKay curated three walking routes which we invite you to try. Further aspects of the project include illustrations from design agency Nifty Fox Creative, and audio clips from 29 researchers reflecting on the challenges and benefits of interdisciplinary working. <a href="https://www.leicias.le.ac.uk/?cat=3" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">These are available to listen to and download from the LIAS blog site</a>.
