“My soul is fed with needle and thread”

Who is this day for?

This day is for those who are becoming confident using their sewing machine but want to learn to sew something using a commercial paper pattern. You may have previously attended one of my beginners sewing machine classes, in which case this class is the perfect next step.

Details

During the 5-hour day (half an hour is allowed for lunch and a bit of time either end of the day for set up and clear up) Steph will explain what the info on a paper pattern means and how to interpret it. Steph will teach you how to lay your paper pattern onto the fabric, cut your item out and then guide you through every stage till you complete your finished sewn garment.

What is provided?

Steph provides the pattern with size options of size 10 -22. If you are a size that it outside of these please contact me before booking this class.

Tea and coffee

Please bring to class:

  • Fabrics. For the skirt bring 2 meters of medium weight cotton fabric. For the P J bottoms please bring 3 meters of medium weight cotton fabric. Make sure it's not stretch fabric. You will have some fabric left but you can use this to make something to co-ordinate when you get home.

Testimonials

"I am attending the beginners learn to sew with a machine class that Steph runs. It is fantastic and I highly recommend it. After three weeks of this class, I am able to sew a drawstring bag, a reversible tote bag and a cushion cover with button fastening. I never thought I would be able to do that! After three years of school needlework lessons, I couldn't make anything!! Steph breaks everything down into simple steps and is so relaxed and patient that even a complete beginner like me can do it! I can't wait for the next lesson". Diane

"Steph is a great teacher, she gives you lots of practical and hands on activities where you actually produce something creative at the end of it! Through her sewing classes she has really inspired me to learn more. Steph’s own designs are fun, colourful and modern, sometimes thought provoking. She likes to move with the times, but her designs remain true to her style". Jenni

Steph Thannhauser has over 35 years of sewing experience. In fact, she can’t remember a day when she wasn’t making or sewing something. She started young and has never stopped. Steph did a degree in Printed Textiles at Loughborough College of Art and Design then subsequently worked in-house and in freelance, creating art for many different products and clients. Her favourite thing to do is design patterns which can then be used in sewing projects.

Teaching people to sew and sharing her love of creativity was a natural progression for Steph. She teaches in the Milton Keynes area but is also planning to teach online too.
