Friday, Jul 17, 2026 at 10:00 to Sunday, Jul 19, 2026 at 16:00
Overview

This 3 week course is aimed those who have been on the beginners weaving course or already have some experience of weaving on a shaft loom.

The course will take you through the process of setting up a loom through to weaving a final outcome. You will learn how to design and make a warp and how to dress the loom. You will also select and input the weave structure you wish to use into the dobby. You will be rewarded for your hard work by weaving your own project at the end!

You will be in a small class, maximum 6 participants, giving plenty of opportunity to ask questions and receive 1 to 1 support and tailored tuition throughout the workshops as well as watching group demonstrations.

The course will take place 10:00 to 16:00 from Friday 17th - Sunday 19th July.

Material Cost - There is an additional £10 material charge per day.

Please note – some initial weaving knowledge is assumed. Dressing the loom requires some dexterity, however support is available should this be welcomed.

Things to bring

Yourselves, ideas , a packed lunch (there are also places to buy lunch in the mill and on Farsley Town Street.)

We will provide

Refreshments (drinks and cake!), some materials and equipment.

About your tutor

Agnis Smallwood has been working with us at Sunny Bank Mills for over 6 years. She is a Designer Maker Researcher and Educator who loves to make, create and teach. Agnis has a passion for textiles and specialises in weave. She is based in Leeds, Yorkshire and can always be found making, both independently and often collaboratively.

Previous workshop participants have said: “Teacher was delightful”, “Thank you for such an interesting and eye opening day”, “We covered everything in a logical methodical way, to be able to create a piece by the end, excellent communication throughout.” “Knowledgeable, clear, enthusiastic teacher, what more could you need!”

Course terms and booking conditions

Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date. As materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.
