Research has shown that Internationally Educated Nurses and students from different countries experience almost the same communication issues and culture shock. There is also a concerning mismatch between their expectations and experience in England.

Research has also highlighted the importance of preparing managers, mentors, and Lecturers to facilitate adequate adaptation through cultural awareness, knowledge, and sensitivity.

At the end of the session, the participant will:

· Understand the elements contributing to culture shock among international students In UK universities and nurses in the UK healthcare sector.

· Understand some strategies to support international students and nurses in UK health care.

· Identify areas where managers, mentors, and lecturers can make adjustments to support international student/staff nurses better.

The speaker is Patience Bamisaye, an internationally educated nurse (IEN) who was once an international student at Anglia Ruskin University and is now a senior lecturer managing the international nursing top-up course at ARU, also an accredited RCN Learning Rep.
