Workshop Overview

This workshop is part of a British Academy–funded project co-led by Dr Inesa Kostenko (University of Leicester) and Dr Anna Hurova (La Rochelle University & NASU), aimed at identifying legal and regulatory gaps surrounding On-Orbit Servicing (OOS) / In-Space Assembly & Manufacturing (ISAM).

The event will serve as a platform for presenting preliminary research findings, including results from stakeholder surveys and legal analysis, and for fostering expert discussion on how to shape adaptive, internationally harmonised regulatory frameworks that support space sustainability and innovation.

Reflecting the project’s interdisciplinary nature, we warmly invite representatives from the space industry engaged in OOS and ISAM activities. Insights into current operations, technical developments, and regulatory challenges are essential to ensuring that future legal frameworks are informed, practicable, and aligned with the realities of in-orbit practice.

Key Objectives

  • Present and discuss results from the legal and policy study on OOS/ISAM
  • Examine liability and oversight mechanisms across jurisdictions
  • Encourage dialogue between academics, industry leaders, and policymakers
  • Identify actionable steps for regulatory harmonisation and compliance

Participants

  • Researchers, legal scholars, and space policy experts
  • Representatives from the space industry
  • Key stakeholders from the UK, EU, and international space sector
