Free Intersectional Reporting Masterclass aimed at journalists and reporters, exploring embedding intersectionality into your storytelling.

On 28 September, <a href="https://mediatrust.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Media Trust</a> will be running a virtual masterclass for journalists, editors, and students on best practice and tips for effective intersectional reporting. Almost two thirds of UK news articles focus on single rather than multiple disadvantages when reporting on inequality. Our 1.5 hour virtual masterclass, which has been developed by Media Trust in partnership with the <a href="https://www.nctj.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">NCTJ</a>, will explore best practise and share practical tips for reporting that gets to the root cause of complex societal issues, reflects the multiple challenges facing marginalised communities and individuals, and amplifies under-represented voices. *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * *Date: Thursday 28 September 2023Time: 10:30-12:00 *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * * * *﻿ * * *In this masterclass we will explore: <ul><li>Data and research about communities and individuals experiencing multiple disadvantages </li><li>Intersectionality as part of finding a story, storytelling and solutions journalism </li><li>Reinforcing and exploring the interdependence of different inequalities </li><li>Amplifying the voices of people with lived experience in reporting and in the newsroom </li><li>Practical ways to expand your sourcebook and build trust with your contributors </li><li>This will be an interactive session which will include opportunities to speak to and learn from other journalists in small group discussions. </li></ul>&quot;We know that it is only by understanding all points of view, backgrounds and perspectives that we can really do our jobs and inform and support the public - our audiences - as they navigate the world around them.
