TheMedia and Arts Technologyprogramme links to many strands of research both within and outside the university through research groups such asCognitive Science, Multimedia and Vision and the Centre for Digital Music, and also interdepartmentally, with strong ties to theSchool of Electronic Engineering, School of Business and Management, School of Geography and the Drama and Film departments.Being part of Queen Mary University of London also means we naturally collaborate with the larger University of London network and the UK academic networks as a whole.Queen Mary University of London is also part of the Russell group, making it one of the top class research institutions in the UK.

Media and Arts Technology, QMUL

Inter/sections hosts a Family Cryptoparty to highlight issues of privacy and security that affect all of us in our connected society. It aims to empower people from all ages and walks of life with the knowledge of how to manage their personal privacy and use encryption in a way that is relevant and useful to them.
 
The aim of this event is to increase literacy around these issues of privacy, as well as awareness of practical tools and strategies. There will be a hands-on workshop for kids (aged 6-12) where they can encode their own messages as well as four tables, each dedicated to explaining an aspect of privacy (threat models), and presenting tools for managing it. These are:
 
-What is identity theft, and how can I prevent it?
-What is online surveillance, and how can I manage my privacy?
-Who is affected by online harassment, and what can I do about it?
-What is personal data, and how can I protect it?
